Jon Moxley will challenge for the interim AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door

Jon Moxley is the first confirmed for the fight for the interim AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door.

Since it got announced that CM Punk had been injured and could not fulfil his duties as the new AEW World Champion, All Elite Wrestling announced a tournament to determine the new interim titleholder. It was confirmed that Jon Moxley, for being first in the rankings, and Kyle O’Reilly, after winning a Casino Battle Royale, would meet to determine the first finalist. This contest was held in the most recent edition of AEW Dynamite and saw ‘The Death Rider’ as the winner.

Both fighters began the contest with various physical blows. At one point, Kyle O’Reilly caught Jon Moxley’s leg on the rope to knee him from the third rope. Later, Mox scratched his opponent’s back from the top of the corner and then caught him in a Rear Naked Choke from behind, but his opponent made it to the rope. Next, Jon applied a Piledriver, with which he also failed to win. Ultimately, Jon landed a Bulldog Choke followed by a Paradigm Shift for the win.

Jon Moxley will have the option to become the interim AEW World Champion when he faces either Hiroshi Tanahashi or Hirooki Goto at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view. His rival will be officially determined next Sunday, June 12, at Dominion 6.12 in Osaka-jo Hall.
